Congratulations are in order for Coronation Street star Sam Aston and wife Briony, who have welcomed a baby girl.

The couple, who confirmed they were expecting their third child in November, shared the news on Instagram yesterday (May 14), also revealing the newborn's name.

Posting a series of photos from the water birth alongside the family together, Sam and Briony wrote in a joint post: "Welcome to the world...Hazel Marie Aston 07.05.24 8lbs 15oz."

The couple have received a host of congratulations, one follower writing: "Huge congratulations to you all. So pleased for you! Absolutely beautiful photos aswell. Hope you're all doing well and enjoying the newborn bubble xxx."

"Beautiful pictures congrats and welcome to your gorgeous family Hazel," another added, while a third said: "Congratulations to you all."

The couple previously revealed that Briony was pregnant with twins, though sadly lost one due to Vanishing Twin Syndrome.

"If we hadn't had the early scan, I wouldn't even have known," Briony told OK!. "But it does explain why I was so sick and tired this time around compared to my other pregnancies."

Sam added: "At first, you’re thinking, 'What would it have been like to have twins? Would we have had one of each, a boy and a girl?'

"Like Briony says, it's definitely bittersweet, but we just feel very grateful that the other baby is absolutely fine. I think Briony breathed a big sigh of relief after her 12-week scan.

"Just knowing that there was a strong heartbeat and the baby was moving while the scan was being done… That really reassured her."

Briony continued: "We started thinking, 'We could have had two… Will the living twin always wonder, 'What if?' and will they feel lonely?' We found ourselves questioning what could have been, while feeling grateful for what we’ve got."

Sam and Briony share son Sonny and daughter Daisy. Last year, Briony revealed that she had tragically suffered a second miscarriage within four months.
