Coronation Street has been snubbed at the BAFTA TV Awards nominations for a second year in a row.

The nominees for this year's awards were released today (March 20), with three shows up for the Soap & Continuing Drama category – namely Casualty, EastEnders and Emmerdale.

These nods completely echo last year's nominations, with Corrie also snubbed in 2023 despite winning the category in 2022.

The ITV soap has previously won the award seven times – the second-highest behind EastEnders – and prior to 2023 was last not nominated in 2017.

The 2024 BAFTA TV nominations are led by The Crown, with eight nods, followed by Black Mirror episode 'Demon 79' with seven and Happy Valley, Slow Horses and The Sixth Commandment with six each.

“At a time when budgets are tight and creative risk-taking can feel ever riskier, we hope our awards can play a positive role in reinforcing the value of nurturing new talent and ideas, as well as holding a mirror up to stubborn industry inequities, particularly for talented female directors who are still significantly outnumbered by their male counterparts when it comes to awards submissions," said BAFTA Chair Sara Putt.

"The exceptional variety and quality of programmes nominated reflects the creative powerhouse that is the UK television industry, and it is an honour for BAFTA voters to watch and debate such brilliant TV. Congratulations to everyone nominated.”

This year's awards are set to take place on Sunday, May 12 on BBC One, with comedy stars Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan overseeing as hosts.

Coronation Street is currently exploring a number of hard-hitting storylines, including Paul Foreman's Motor Neurone Disease (MND) diagnosis, Lauren Bolton's disappearance, and Liam Connor being the victim of bullying.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
