Coronation Street Bosses ‘Having A Cheeky Dig At Ryan Thomas With His New Storyline’

If only soaps imitated life for Ryan Thomas.

The Coronation Street actor was declared bankrupt three years ago over an unpaid tax bill of £40,000 – despite earning £90,000-a-year in his role as builder Jason Grimshaw.

But his latest storyline on the cobbles is to feature his character getting a huge cash windfall.

A source told The Sun Jason is set to find out he was left £80,000 by his dad Tony Stewart whose funeral scenes he filmed last week.

The insider added about Thomas, above and below on the Corrie set: “They’re having a laugh at Ryan’s expense but it’s all good-natured.

“He takes it in his stride, but seeing as he’s leaving anyway they’re not holding any punches. The writers have had a right laugh with Jason’s character. This windfall is part of a series of storylines that will lead to his exit on the show later this year. It’s going to be explosive.”

Thomas managed to pay off his tax bill late last year after securing a series of £2,000-a-pop nightclub appearances.

He is now ditching Corrie for Hollywood with aspirations to make it as a film star.
