Corning Museum of Glass plans eclipse watch party April 8. What to know about event.

Corning Museum of Glass will host an outdoor viewing space for guests between 2-4 p.m. Monday, April 8, to look at a once-in-a-lifetime experience, watching the Great American Eclipse darken the skies.

For about four minutes in the middle of the afternoon, cloudy or not, the sky about Corning Museum of Glass will blacken, according to CMoG officials. Corning will not experience totality, but it will be at around 98 percent, still making for one of the most significant astronomical events to affect the region in 100 years.

“There will also be projector boxes (NASA PUNCH pinhole projectors) for viewing safely, or you can buy the glasses in the shops, although there are limited supplies,” said Kelci Sibley, a CMoG spokesperson. “Admission for kids and teens is free.”

CMoG is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday.

Sibley said there will also be some space-themed activities for families to enjoy, like a scavenger hunt, puzzles, coloring and more.

At the CMoG studio people will be able to "Make Your Own Glass Moon" every day until April 28. Children and teens get in for free. Adult prices vary.
