Corning man arrested for alleged drug possession while in jail

BATH, N.Y. (WETM) – A Corning man has been arrested on drug charges after he was alleged to have had narcotics on him in the Steuben County Jail.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Jason S. Howells, 38, was arrested on Sunday, April 21, after an investigation into reported contraband in the jail.

It is alleged that at the time that Howells was arrested and taken into custody, he had more than half an ounce of narcotics on him.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, and promoting prison contraband in the first degree, a class D felony.

Howells was processed in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.
