Cornell Cooperative Extension to host fruit tree workshop in Schuyler County

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WETM) – Cornell Cooperative Extension, along with Rick Reisinger, owner of Reisinger’s Summer Fruit, will be offering a fruit tree workshop at a local orchard next weekend in Watkins Glen.

The workshop will take place on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to noon at Apples and Moore, an apple orchard located on 2750 Apple Lane.

Attendees of the workshop will learn about a variety of different topics that will be helpful to all levels of fruit growers who are interested in learning how to grow and maintain fruit trees, focusing on apple, peach, plum and pear.

For the duration of the workshop, Reisinger, and owner of Apples and Moore, Alec Moore, will cover variety selection, planting, establishment, training, pruning techniques, tools, insects, diseases, animal control and nutrient management. There will also be plenty of time for Q&A with Moore and Reisinger during the workshop.

If you’re interested in participating, you must register for the workshop beforehand. Registration is $25 for a single registration and $40 for a double registration. You must register by March 21.

The workshop will be held outside no matter the weather, so participants should dress accordingly.
