In 2022, the Coria family opened De Coria’s Bagels at 609 N. Main St. in Belmont, bringing a new breakfast option to the city.

After nearly two years, the Coria family permanently closed its Gastonia location and moved De Coria’s Bagels into what was formerly White’s Restaurant at 417 E. Catawba Street.

The new location is also coming with some new menu items.

“We needed a bigger space,” Coria said. “Thursday through Sunday we’re gonna have dinner.”

According to owner Margarilo Coria, the family needed to focus its time and resources on one store, and while that focus meant closing the Gastonia location and moving the Belmont location, it also allowed the family to grow its business in other ways.

The family recently finalized the dinner menu, which includes an array of items from chicken and duck to flounder, Coria said.

They began selling dinner last week, starting with seared Salmon or scallops over risotto with micro greens, according to an internet post by the restaurant.

Coria said the family currently has no plans to expand, and will continue to focus on De Coria’s current location, due to struggles in keeping employees.

In a 2022 interview with The Gazette, Coria said that both making a good bagel and running a small business were challenging tasks.

His son, Luis Coria, was initially running De Coria's Gastonia location, but the Corias believe they work best as a unit.

"I really need my son with me," Margarilo Coria said.

Despite opening the first location of De Coria’s Bagels in Gastonia during a period of the pandemic that was challenging for businesses, Coria said the family has received a lot of support from the community.

“We decided to open, you know, it wasn’t the best time of the year, you know the pandemic had started in 2020,” he said. “But even with that we got a lot of support from the community.”

De Coria’s Bagels will now be open Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday from 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
