Corbin man pleads guilty in wanton endangerment case

May 7—A Corbin man indicted last September in connection to a shooting incident has pleaded guilty.

Jazzman Smith, 27, was in Whitley Circuit Court Thursday for a pretrial conference.

His indictment charged him with eight counts of first-degree wanton endangerment as well as a count each of trafficking in marijuana of less than 8 ounces, first offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia, first offense.

Whitley County Sheriff's Office investigated the April 5, 2023, incident in which Smith is accused of stopping in the middle of Bacon Creek Road and firing 5-6 shots from a 9mm handgun at a residence.

At the time, according to Smith's initial citation, two adults were inside the residence and two other adults were standing outside the residence. There were also three small children playing in the yard next to the residence.

Upon executing a search warrant at Smith's residence, deputies also located two ounces of marijuana, a large amount of THC wax, smoking pipes, and a large amount of US currency.

In exchange for Smith's guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss the paraphernalia possession charge.

Whitley Circuit Judge Dan Ballou has scheduled Smith's sentencing for June 3.
