Coping with the Jonesboro school shooting 20 years later: ‘It gets better, but it never goes away’

Nearly 20 years ago — before the Columbine High School shooting — two students at Westside Middle School in Jonesboro, Ark., opened fire and killed four of their classmates and one teacher. Ten other people were wounded that day. Yahoo’s Holly Bailey went to Jonesboro to talk with Lynette Thetford, a teacher who was shot in the abdomen; Karen Curtner, who was the principal of the middle school at the time; and Bobby McDaniel, an attorney for the families of the victims. How are individuals affected by such tragedy coping nearly two decades later? Curtner says, “It gets better, but it never goes away.”
