STORY: Emergency services, employees from the Danish Chamber of Commerce, including its CEO Brian Mikkelsen, and even passers-by were seen carrying large paintings away from the building in a race to save historic artefacts from the flames.
"It is our Notre Dame in Copenhagen," said Lockwood who helped to carry a painting by the German painter Albrecht Durer to the nearby parliament building.
"That was such a touching moment to hold the Danish national history in your hands and to grasp the seriousness of this terrible, terrible fire," he said.
