Cop suspended after holding doctor at gunpoint on his own property, Colorado police say

A Colorado police officer has been suspended for one week without pay after holding a doctor at gunpoint on his own property, local media outlets report.

Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson said on Tuesday that Officer Justin Henderson will be suspended for 40 hours without pay, according to the Sentinel. He also will take mandatory “de-escalation training,” according to the news outlet.

In March, police body camera footage captured the police officer drawing his gun on Dr. PJ Parmar, McClatchy News reported.

“He jumped out of his car,” Parmar told 9NEWS. “Told me to get my bleeping hands in the air and was right at my door with his gun at my head.”

Parmar originally said he was parking at the center that is a “shared space for refugees and asylees,” McClatchy News reported. He was reportedly dropping off gear from a Boy Scout trip, and he was blocked by a police car.

Parmar said he honked at the officer to move, and the police officer with a gun approached him, according to McClatchy News. He believed “his race affected how he was treated,” according to NBC News.

The doctor is seeking monetary compensation and attorney fees, according to NBC News. Parmar thinks the suspension is an inadequate punishment, The Sentinel reported.

“That just does not sound like it has much teeth to it,” Parmar told NBC News on Thursday about Henderson’s suspension. “It definitely would not fly in my businesses. I’ve fired people for a lot less.”
