Cool Tattoo Innovation Will Save You From a Lifetime of Regret

For commitment-phobes, there are temporary tattoos — and due to advances in printing techniques and ink, stick-on tats look amazingly realistic these days. But when it comes to getting permanent-and-forever ink, there’s still a little finger crossing that goes on when you settle into that chair, as there’s no perfect way to test-drive the kind of body art that exists only in your imagination.

Until Momentary Ink came along, that is.

This Philadelphia-based startup creates custom-designed temporary tattoos that look and feel like real ink, letting customers test out the exact art they want before the needle slips in.

The implications from this new service are huge but boil down to this: There will no longer be any excuse for having terrible body art. ’Cause why wouldn’t you test that $@#& out first?!

Seriously though, this try-before-you-buy startup is the service the tat-shy (and anyone who wants to be smart about their tattoo) has been waiting for. No more drawing on your arms as a test run!

The way it works is simple: You upload a design to the company’s website or work with the in-house tattoo artist to create one, then receive a nontoxic, waterproof tattoo sized to your specifications that lasts for 3 to 10 days. Pricing varies by size: Tattoos of 0 to 3 inches cost $15 to $18; those at 8 to 10 inches run about $25 to $30.

BTW, that’s not a lot to spend on trying out something you’ll eventually have on your body for, you know, life.

Other than being a bespoke company, Momentary Ink’s biggest differentiator is the look of the tats themselves. They don’t appear shiny or wet, unlike other temporary tattoos. Founder Jordan Denny told Mashable that it took over 50 combinations of products to create the “secret solution.”

“When it comes to the type of tattoos that people are getting today, it’s a lot harder to visualize and get on the paper exactly what you’re thinking,” Denny said. “We allow them to really visualize what this thing is going to look like as an exact replica before they get it done.”
