Macarons are being pulled from shelves across nine different states due to undeclared allergens. The affected products may contain milk, eggs, coconut, pistachios, wheat, soy, and almonds, but did not contain a label letting customers know. The US Food and Drug Administration reported the recall last week, which was issued voluntarily by Lidl, the German discount grocery store that sold them. Read on for more details, including exactly which products the recall includes and what to do if you’ve purchased them.

Lidl Deluxe Macarons Recall

According to the FDA, the affected macarons were sold in Lidl grocery stores in nine different states, including Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, DC. The packages of affected macarons have the UPC barcode 4056489365365, have the "Deluxe" brand on the front, and are labeled "Party Edition." The flavors included in the box are chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, pistachio, and salted caramel.

Undeclared Allergens

The macarons contain major allergens that could result in "life-threatening allergic reactions," according to the recall announcement. Those allergens include wheat, soy, egg, milk, and tree nuts, specifically almonds, pistachios, and coconut. The allergens were not labeled on the packaging as "as a result of non-English ingredient labeling," the statement continues.

There have been no reports or complaints of illness as a result of the macarons, however, it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to allergic reactions.

What To Do If You've Purchased One Of The Recalled Items

If you have any of the listed allergens, dispose of the cookies immediately to avoid life-threatening reactions. If you have consumed the cookies and are experiencing any adverse reactions, contact your health provider immediately.

Customers who've purchased the affected macarons can return them to their local store for a full refund, no receipt necessary. Those with any further questions about the recall were asked to call the company's U.S. customer care hotline at (844)-747-5435 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday to Saturday.
