Convicted felon allegedly pulls gun on U.S. Marshals, hides gun in random apartment

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was given a $100,000 bond after he allegedly pulled a gun on a U.S. Marshal and then hid it in a family’s apartment.

Wayne Sanders, 31, is charged with being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun, Evading Arrest, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Aggravated Assault on a First Responder.

Saturday, U.S. Marshals went to serve an arrest warrant to Sanders, who was seen in the parking lot of the 2000 block of Imogene Street.

As a deputy approached, Sanders reportedly pulled a black Glock handgun with an extended magazine at him. He then ran into a random apartment in the complex.

The residents allowed officials to search their apartment. The gun was found behind the living room television; the magazine was inside an open purse in front of the television.

Memphis Police also found a Glock 17 with an “auto sear,” a switch that converts the gun to an automatic weapon, inside Sanders’ vehicle.

Sanders also has another open case from an incident that happened in February.

5 injured in multiple overnight shootings

On February 16, officers responded to a Dollar Tree on Elvis Presley Boulevard around 5:21 p.m. regarding a stolen vehicle.

The victim stated that she was standing in line when a man approached her, demanding her car keys. He allegedly snatched them from her and left the scene in her Chrysler Crossfire.

A few days later, officers saw the vehicle in South Memphis driving on Wabash Avenue. As they waited for backup, two male suspects got out of the stolen vehicle and ran away.

Sanders went into an occupied home and hid in the attic with several weapons. He fell through the ceiling and into the carport area, police say.
