Convicted felon accused in drive-by shooting near south end of Las Vegas Strip faces 19 charges

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man accused in a road rage shooting that left one driver injured on the south end of the Strip led police on a car chase and then tried to run away before he was taken into custody.

Takile Holmes, 28, is accused of firing several rounds at another driver on March 6, around 10 p.m. on Four Seasons Drive near Las Vegas Boulevard. Holmes is a convicted felon who served 60 days in the Clark County Detention Center for running from an officer while in possession of a gun in 2014. At the time, he was given a sentence of 1 to 3 years but through a plea deal, he was given a suspended three-year probation, records show.

According to the arrest report, the victim, who was shot in the ankle, told police he was driving a company truck eastbound on Four Seasons when he saw a white SUV drive up alongside his truck, cut him off, and make a U-turn so both drivers were side by side. The victim said the man then fired five rounds into his truck, striking him once before speeding off.

The injured driver who was fearful for his life drove to Planet Hollywood when he was met by co-workers who called for a paramedic.

Some employees from a business near the shooting scene called 911 and told police they witnessed the white SUV pull up next to the truck and fire rounds, the report said.

Police got a better description of the SUV and the license plate because its image was captured on a crime camera operated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Court documents stated the Chevy Blazer was spotted 45 minutes later near Smoke Ranch Road and Jones Boulevard where police attempted a vehicle stop, but Holmes sped away.

An air unit tracked him down to an apartment complex on Decatur where he then ran from officers and inadvertently discharged a firearm into the ground before tripping and being taken into custody, the arrest report said.

Police confiscated two guns and several bullet rounds that matched the bullet that struck the victim.

Holmes is facing the following 19 charges:

  • Attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon (1)

  • Battery with the use of a deadly weapon (1)

  • Discharging a gun into an occupied structure/vehicle (6)

  • Discharging a gun into an occupied structure/vehicle in a prohibited area (6)

  • Owning/possessing a gun by a prohibited person (2)

  • Carrying a concealed weapon (2)

  • Disobeying a peace officer (1)

Holmes remains in the Clark County Detention Center. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 26.
