Controversial Princess Diana documentary causes backlash

On Today, Keir Simmons reported on the reaction to a controversial documentary by the British network Channel 4. The documentary, Diana: In Her Own Words, used privately taped conversations of Princess Diana made by a voice coach. These clips featured the late princess talking candidly about her private life and being married to Prince Charles. She openly talked about her eating disorder and her marriage struggles, and even said she turned to Queen Elizabeth for hope and received little.

Simmons reported on the backlash, saying that friends of Diana called the broadcast “exploitative,” “ghoulish,” and “disgusting.”

Simmons summed up the controversy, referring to Diana’s sons: “The issue here is this is history we’re seeing. At the same time, it is William and Harry’s life.”
