Controlled burn planned in Macon Co. on Wednesday

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Decatur and Macon County Conservation District are planning a controlled burn at the Oakley Township sediment storage basin on Wednesday.

The burn will begin between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., barring unexpected weather changes. It should last around four to five hours. The Oakley Sediment Basin is located at 6705 Angle Crossing Road in Oakley.

Officials ask nearby community members not to be alarmed by thick black smoke in the area as they work to remove unwanted vegetation.

Local authorities and fire officials are aware of the upcoming burn, which will be carried out by certified individuals. A Decatur spokesperson said safety will be top of mind, and there will be no hazardous materials on site.
