Contested races arise as Missouri filing deadline closes

KSNF/KODE — The deadline has officially passed for candidates wanting to run for office in Missouri this year.

In Jasper County, most candidates signed up in the first week of the filing period.

Since then, there are just two more contested races.

For coroner, John Heid III will run against James Harrison, who is currently serving as the interim county coroner.

There are also four names on the list for Eastern District Commissioner:

  • Drew Evans

  • Mark Lashley

  • Alan Snow

  • Tom Flanigan (Incumbent)

In Newton County, there’s a 4-way race for the county commission seat in District One:

  • Raleigh Ritter (Republican)

  • Mark Knight (Republican)

  • John Hird (Republican)

  • Martin Lindstedt (Independent)

With current Sheriff Chris Jennings set to retire, that race is contested with:

  • Matt Stewart

  • Rick Geller

Vernon County has a similar contest with the retirement of current Sheriff Jason Mosher. Filing for that race are:

  • Mike Buehler

  • Travis Cole

  • Jimmie Dye

Voters will decide those primaries in August.
