The U.S. 41 bridge and resurfacing project in Oconto and Brown counties has concluded, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced.

Construction has finished on a 9-mile stretch of U.S. 41 between U.S. 141 in the Town of Abrams in Oconto County to Norfield Road in the Town of Suamico in Brown County, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.

Work began last Aug. 11 to address minor deformations and cracking in the pavement surface, which reduced surface roughness and provides a smoother driving surface for motorists, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The project resurfaced U.S. 41 in the work zone by milling 3 inches and overlaying with 3.75 inches. Interchange ramps were also resurfaced.

The DOT said the resurfacing will reduce future maintenance costs and increase the road's lifespan. Meanwhile, culvert replacement will assist in the proper drainage of water and new guardrail will help mitigate possible serious crashes.

Other work included frost heave repairs, new overhead sign structure placement, base patching and pavement marking.

Minor finishing work may still occur, the DOT announced, but this will have little impact on traffic.

The $17.14 million project was funded through the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Northeast Asphalt, Inc. from Greenville was the prime contractor.
