Construction worker dead in Wilmington after vehicle collision

A construction worker is dead following a vehicle and pedestrian collision in Wilmington.

Wilmington police responded to the collision on Military Cutoff Road and Covil Farm Road on April 11, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department. The driver of the vehicle had driven into the construction area and hit a construction worker. The victim died on scene as a result of their injuries.

Police identified the driver of the vehicle as 29-year-old Dakota Quinn Knight. Knight fled on foot following the collision and was located by a New Hanover County deputy behind a nearby church.

The victim was identified by Wilmington police as 53-year-old Michelle Renee Von Seggern.

Knight was arrested on Thursday in connection with the incident and charged with felony hit and run causing serious bodily injury or death, felony driving while impaired (DWI), death by vehicle and reckless operation of a vehicle, according to the release and the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office inmate search. More charges may be forthcoming.

Knight was being held in the New Hanover County Jail under a $515,000 total secure bond as of Thursday morning.

The collision is still under investigation.
