Construction resumes on Uptown Rotary Project in Gardner - will there be detours?
Drivers in Gardner should expect delays and detours as work on the Uptown Rotary Project continues.
Construction was expected to begin again on Monday, April 29, according to Mayor Michael Nicholson, who said the work would affect traffic at the intersection of Green, Elm, Central, Pearl streets, and Woodland Avenue.
“There will be traffic detours put up because there’s actual construction trucks that will be actively digging into the streets to work on that rotary,” Nicholson said. “Right now, it looks like traffic will be diverted down Cherry Street from Pearl Street into Central Street. However, (that is) subject to change, it all depends on how the construction schedule goes.”
The $2.3 million project, a joint venture between MassDOT and E.H. Perkins Construction of Hudson, is aimed at improving traffic flow, creating new green spaces, and providing upgraded bicycle and pedestrian accommodations in the intersection.
Funding for the project was provided by the MassDOT Traffic Improvement Program and federal grant funding.
The project is expected to be completed by November 2024.
