Biggby Coffee is still coming to Cudahy and should open this year.

After a year and a half of silence, the Biggby Coffee of Cudahy WI Facebook page posted construction will be “resuming soon” on the former Subway building at 5861 S. Packard Ave.

Co-owner Keith Washington told the Journal Sentinel the delay was due to “a dispute with the landlord due to issues regarding the building during construction.” He said those issues have been resolved and construction will resume “in a month or so.”

The business has all permits and plans approved, according to Washington.

“So, when we resume construction, we should be able to hit the ground running,” he said.

The building needed a complete gutting. Once open, patrons can order inside or online, and a drive-thru will be available.

The coffee should start brewing for Cudahy residents in late summer or early fall. The duo originally hoped to open this location in fall 2022.

Washington, along with his business partner Curtis Grace, operate a Biggby Coffee location at 7700 South Lovers Lane Road, Suite 100, in Franklin. They also are working on opening another location at Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee. It should be open by early summer.

Washington, who has a background in real estate, and Grace, who has experience in financial services, first worked together in an airport. While at a Chicago expo in 2019 they learned about Biggby.

After meeting with a franchisee in Wausau and tasting the product ― which offers over 400 drink combinations ― the duo decided to bring the coffee to Franklin.

In addition to coffee, Biggby offers teas, smoothies and a proprietary energy drink. They also have food options including a breakfast bagel sandwich called the bragel, cookies, doughnut holes and muffins.
