Constance Wu created "alternate universe version" of EastSiders
EastSiders creator Kit Williamson recently told Digital Spy that an "alternate universe version" of the show exists in script form.
The Netflix series – which premiered its fourth and final season earlier this month – is a dark comedy centred on Cal (played by Williamson himself) and Thom (Van Hansis) who struggle with substance abuse and infidelity.
Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu also appears as Cal's best mate, Kathy, but due to contractual issues she couldn't work on as many episodes as Williamson originally intended.

"I can tell you that there is an alternate universe version of almost every single season of this show – except the first – where I have literally written scripts that I wasn't able to produce because of actor availability," the creator explained.
"The character of Hillary (Brianna Brown) came about in season two because ABC would only release Constance for two episodes of another scripted television series. Contractually, that was all they would allow her to do."
"Brianna Brown’s character, Hillary, was going to be a much larger part, but then the actress got pregnant in real life," he said. "So while she had a pregnancy scare in the show, she actually has a new-born in real life."
Williamson elaborated: "There's [also] an alternate universe version of season two where Kathy has a much bigger role. I wrote the whole thing."
Damn those network heads – we can't help but feel this was a missed opportunity.
