Conor McGregor immortalized his name in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) by being the first MMA fighter to win and simultaneously hold two UFC championships in two different weight divisions at the same time. However, “The Notorious” dropped one of his titles, the UFC Featherweight Championship, to then interim UFC Featherweight Champion, José Aldo.

According to a written article by Fox Sports 1, it reports the announcement of Conor McGregor dropping the UFC Featherweight Championship was made known during the broadcast of UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. Nogueira 2. The announcers at the venue reported that McGregor gave up the belt out of necessity as the UFC hustled to find a replacement to fight Anthony Johnson when his opponent, the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier, had to drop out of the fight after suffering an injury.

Sources close to Conor McGregor supposedly claim that his team was made aware that the UFC will most likely make such a move to help save the fight card after the original main event was scrapped. However, it seems that may not be the case as McGregor is now claiming he was stripped of the UFC Featherweight Championship.
