Conn. DOT Commissioner Redeker to chair Northeast Corridor Commission on rail policy
NEWINGTON, Conn. (AP) -- James Redeker, commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Transportation, is the new chairman of an organization created by Congress to come up with a long-term investment strategy for rail throughout the Northeast corridor.
Redeker began his two-year term as chairman of the Northeast Corridor Commission earlier this month.
The Northeast region is home to the busiest passenger rail corridor in the U.S. It includes eight states and the District of Columbia, each day serving 750,000 riders and 2,200 commuter, intercity and freight trains.
Redeker said he's personally committed to "identifying and recommending strategic and targeted infrastructure investments to support the system's continued growth" and help boost the region's economy.
