Conners reveals life-changing twist for major character
Note: this article contains spoilers from the latest episode of The Conners, 'Miracles'.
Roseanne spin-off The Conners gave us a big twist in its latest episode after it revealed that one of its major characters is pregnant.
Becky (Lecy Goranson) unveiled the unexpected news that she was expecting her first child, explaining to dad Dan (John Goodman) that the reason for her nausea was pregnancy.
However, he was not happy at all about the news, and fired her from her construction job as Becky revealed that the pregnancy was a result of a one night stand.
She later realised that Emilio, a busboy at her restaurant, was the father of the baby, and he seemed delighted by the news, much like her.
There was also a more bittersweet moment, however, as Becky mentioned her late mother Roseanne (Roseanne Barr), saying that she "wish[ed] mom was here".
The Conners killed off Barr's character in its debut episode last month, explaining that she'd died of an opioid overdose, following from Barr's controversial exit over a series of racially-offensive tweets.
However, Barr hit back at the exit, saying it "lent a unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show".
"This was a choice the network did not have to make," she said. "Roseanne was the only show on television that directly addressed the deep divisions threatening the very fabric of our society."
The Conners airs on ABC on Tuesdays at 8/7c in the US.
