Connecticut woman faces sentencing for fraud

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Federal prosecutors are calling for a Washington Depot, Conn. woman to serve as many as six and half years in prison for defrauding clients of more than $1 million.

Robin Brass pleaded guilty in May to mail fraud in a scheme that victimized mostly elderly clients. She is to be sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Hartford.

Prosecutors say the 55-year-old Brass used the money to pay personal expenses for herself and her family including credit card bills, college tuition payments and home furnishings.

Brass says in court documents that her wrongdoing stemmed from huge losses in trading accounts she kept for friends and family and she is sorry for their losses.

Brass has been jailed since her arrest in November 2011.
