The Connecticut shoreline is known for having some of most expensive real estate in the country, but a 60-acre private island off the coast of Darien currently on the market also comes with historical clout. Built in 1905 by industrialist and baking powder magnate William Ziegler, the vast estate is one of America's last family-owned properties from the Gilded Age (Ziegler's descendants are its current owners). Great Island, as it is called, is the largest private island estate on the East Coast, and it first went on the market in 2016, for $175 million. The price has been reduced twice more, first in 2018 to $120 million, and now to $100 million.
