Condoleezza Rice on France's presidential election and populist influence on electoral politics

On May 9, Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric spoke with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice about the recent victory of Emmanuel Macron over far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in France’s presidential election. Rice said she “absolutely” breathed a sigh of relief when Macron won and also spoke about the global populist movement: “The conversation about immigrants, about trade has changed as centrist candidates try to appeal to more populist things, so we have a long way to go to think about a time in which the global order — the liberal global order — is actually defended.”
