Concord University adds three certificate programs for Fall 2024

ATHENS, WV (WVNS) — The Higher Learning Commission has approved three new certificate programs that will be offered at Concord University beginning this fall.

These new certificate programs include two undergraduate certificates, one in Child Welfare and one in Geographic Information Systems, and one at the graduate level, Human Resource Management.

Students who earn the Child Welfare Certificate will be competent in the application of social work skills necessary to work in child welfare services, and effective in direct practice programs that impact children and families. The program is designed for students that are in associated undergraduate programs, such as Psychology and Sociology at Concord.

The Child Welfare Certificate will broaden knowledge, encourage and bolster creative activities and the arts, as well as contribute to community engagement and economic development in and beyond the region. Those who complete certification requirements will gain enhanced skills and qualifications to seek employment in the social work field.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, demand for individuals working in child, family, and school social work is expected to increase, with more than 53,000 needed by 2032.

The main objective of the online Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management is to provide business professionals the current knowledge and skills necessary to maintain or advance in a human resource management career.

Bolstering the Master of Business Administration Degree program, the certificate program provides an additional set of skills for professionals in and beyond the region of the University, continuing education possibilities as defined within the University’s mission. This online certificate program will be the only one offered in the southern region of West Virginia.

Concord University enters MOU agreement with Level-Up Program for high school students

Students who earn the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) User Certificate will be proficient in the use and application of GIS technology. The main objective of the program is to supply students with a working knowledge of GIS and its many applications. Students will also be proficient in the art and science of cartography and data visualization.

Upon completion of the program, students will have acquired a skill set that is desired by many industries in the region, such as healthcare, natural resources, and business. The GIS User certificate complements any degree program that mandates students to consider spatial or location-based phenomena. Students can apply the knowledge and skills gained in this program to a variety of careers or graduate school.
