Concho Valley Students compete in inaugural Spanish Spelling Bee

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Concho Valley students from San Angelo and Miles competed in a different kind of spelling bee today.

Organized by the Region 15 Service Center, students from Lincoln Middle School And Miles Junior High School took part. It’s the first time the center has hosted a Spanish Spelling Bee.

“Spanish is the second most-used language in the United States but also here in Texas, so this event allows our students to celebrate their native language and to showcase how beautiful that language is but how crucial it is nowadays to be bilingual, to be successful in so many different ways,” Mary Castanuela, an education specialist, said. “It is just an amazing opportunity for any of our students here at Region 15.”

Winners of the Region 15 spelling bee will have the chance to represent our region at the national competition in El Paso next month.
