Concerts Around Marina Del Rey & LA County: This Week In Music
MARINA DEL REY, CA – There are a ton of great shows to catch this week in Los Angeles County, and we've gathered a list of live music from twenty of the county's top music venues for this week's round-up. From blues, to throwbacks, to indie rock, and electronic, there's something for everyone to see.
Patch caught up with Mikael Danielsson, guitarist of Swedish punk band No Fun At All. Formed in 1991, No Fun At All is prolific – producing six studio albums, six EPs, and a handful of other releases. Their latest album, Grit, was released in April on Bird Attack Records. No Fun At All performs at 8 p.m. on September 22 at the El Rey Theatre.
Emily Holland: How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to it?
Mikael Danielsson: Fast paced melodic hard-core with shredding guitars and sing-along choruses. All done in raw Swedish style getting you ready for some frantic action in the pit.
EH: What (or who) inspires you to create?
MD: Creating music is an ever ongoing process 24/7 in different shapes. I find inspiration in listening to good music in a great variety of styles such as early 70’s rock, jazz, folk, psychedelic and old punk/HC. Running and traveling is also good for getting the creativity flowing.
EH: What’s the most difficult part of the music making process for you?
MD: Of course when you’ve been around as long as us you gotta be careful that you don’t write the same song over and over again. That is way too common. So it can be a long road to find that melody that is perfect for that particular riff and song – but the joy is when the hit is in place.
EH: Do you have any guilty pleasures (music or otherwise)?
MD: My mother washed my laundry until I was 32 years old. And she still comes every spring to do a full cleaning of my apartment. On her demand of course...Mother Margit rules.
EH: What do you hope for the future of No Fun At All?
MD: To do as much touring as possible. Then write and record a new album. And then back at it again.
Really looking forward to play in California again! It’s been 23 years since our last time here. Our history with Lagwagon goes all the way back to 1994 when we played our first show outside Sweden together with them and Strung Out in Christiania, Copenhagen. Stoked for these events! See ya in the pit!
