TOPEKA (KSNT) – State senators from Missouri and Kansas are joining forces in a call for answers from the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) on recent mail delays from the Kansas City area.

A coalition consisting of Kansas Senators Roger Marshall and Jerry Moran along with Missouri Senators Eric Schmitt and Josh Hawley have signed on to a joint letter on Thursday, March 7 directed to the USPS. The letter, addressed to USPS Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, asks for an explanation from the mail delivery service on service delays in the greater Kansas City area.

“We write today to express both concern and frustration over persistent and continued delays in mail service to the residents of the greater Kansas City Metro area. According to the U.S. Postal Service’s own metrics, delivery performance of all classes of mail in the Kansas-Missouri region lags far behind national performance data, indicating substantial and unique issues with the facilities that serve this region.”

27 News reached out to the USPS for comment on this situation. USPS spokesperson Mark Inglett said a direct response to the senator’s letter will be given once the letter is received.

Recent mail delivery delays prompted homeowners in an Overland Park neighborhood in January to air their frustrations to FOX4’s news team. The homeowners complained of inconsistent deliveries and long delays, leading to bills not being paid.

The USPS regularly updates its website with reports of service issues and delays. You can check to see if your area is experiencing delivery issues by clicking here.
