Computer lab manager at Greenville County elementary school charged with cruelty to child

A former computer lab manager at a Greenville County elementary school was charged with cruelty to children after he allegedly threw a 10-year-old student on the ground.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office has charged Peighton Wesley Wayne Ivie, 26, with one count of cruelty to children, according to warrants released by the agency Thursday.

Ivie was a computer lab manager at Ellen Woodside Elementary School but is no longer employed by Greenville County Schools, according to Tim Waller, spokesperson for the school district.

The incident occurred Tuesday morning when Ivie encountered a group of students in the bathroom, according to the sheriff's office. Ivie "intervened and broke up" the group and physically assaulted one 5th-grade student.

According to the warrant, Ivie "lifted the student from the ground and forcefully threw him back on the ground."

Ivie turned himself in at 10:40 a.m., Thursday, and was being held at the Greenville County Detention Center, according to online jail records.
