  • Approximately 10:20 p.m. Thursday: Robbery takes place at a 7/11 convenience store in Cambridge, near the MIT campus. Bombing suspects originally believed to be behind the crime, although that was later disputed and police at a press conference on Friday night said the suspects did not rob a convenience story.

The victim was carjacked at gunpoint by two males and kept in the carjacked Mercedes SUV for approximately a half hour. The victim was then released uninjured at a gas station on Memorial Drive in Cambridge.

Police immediately begin a search for the vehicle and were in pursuit of it into Watertown, Mass. Authorities said the suspects threw explosives from the car as police followed it. The police and suspects exchanged gunfire in the area of Dexter and Laurel Streets, and one of the suspects was critically injured. The suspect was captured and transported to the hospital. A transit police officer was also seriously injured.

The second suspect fled on foot and police said they did not have enough resources to respond to the injured and establish a perimeter.

Officials confirm one suspect dead, the other still on the run.
