Company donates AC to Kansas City-area veteran

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Temperatures are rising, and summer heat can’t be far away.

One military veteran from the Kansas City metro is facing that heat with no air conditioning in his home, until a local heating and air conditioning company donated its time and a brand new AC unit.

Temperatures in Edward Pruett’s Kansas City, Kansas basement are cooling down at last.

“All I can say is thanks a hell of a lot,” 92-year old Pruett said.

Pruett, who served two years in the U.S. Army just after the Korean War, Pruett said when he tried his air conditioning unit for the first time this year, the air that burst from his vents was hot. A repair crew from KB Complete found his home’s AC unit was at least 30 years old and well past its prime.

“I just want a comfortable temperature. That’s all,” Pruett grinned on Friday.

Pruett said he lives with an inoperable heart condition. A new HVAC unit would have cost at least seven thousand dollars, plus the installation costs. However, KB Complete’s managers had a plan.

Tyler Hines, the company’s general manager, said he’s also a veteran and wanted to help Pruett. He and the company’s other leaders have donated a new AC unit and installed it at no cost to Pruett.

“We come to homes like this and find they could have used an upgrade to their system years ago, and they’ve barely been hanging on, probably not living very comfortably. It’s super sad to see,” Hines said.

“What these guys are doing and everything. I really appreciate it. It’s a nice thing to do,” Pruett added.

The guys from KB Complete also had Pruett as their guest of honor at a recent company cookout. This company also donated time and furnace equipment to other deserving families this past winter.
