Community restaurant remembers chef and dear friend Jade Benning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The memory of Jade Benning, 25, is remembered through the many lives she touched with her culinary skills. She was a chef at Earnest Bar & Hideaway.

A former Tennessee Titans scout is accused of poisoning her in 2023, when she was five months pregnant. The suspect is Blaise Taylor, 27, who was arrested in Salt Lake City and is awaiting extradition to Nashville. He faces two counts of murder for the death of Benning and her unborn child, who he is believed to have fathered.

In memory of Benning, her restaurant has two memorials inside. One is located at in the servers’ area and the other is next to the kitchen entrance.

“We have a small picture of her that’s right outside of the kitchen where she worked, and we light a candle for her every day, and then the employees that are here with me at the end of the night, we actually all blow it out together and tell her goodnight,” Lauren Weber, Benning’s close friend, said.

Benning was known as a chef and master baker. She was very popular for her crème brûlée and chocolate cake.

“She would make crème brûlée, and that is something that we refuse to take off of the menu because that was Jade’s dish, and we have to have it,” Weber said.
