Community pushes for unity after Sunday’s shooting in Prince George’s County

SEAT PLEASANT, Md. (DC News Now) — Community members are calling for everyone to step up and help put an end to the increasing violence after Sunday’s triple shooting, and a fatal shooting hours before in Prince George’s County.

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police believe the two shootings may be connected but they are investigating it as two separate incidents at the moment.

Acting Chief Germaine Haywood says the incident may have stemmed from “neighborhood beef.”

“It does break my heart,” said Jeanette Brandon, community advocate and founder of the non-profit “Together We Can.”

Nearly six dozen shots were fired near Booker Terrace on Sunday night just before 9:00 p.m.

According to the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, three people were shot and had to be rushed to the hospital. Several cars were also damaged.

The shooting happened less than two hours after a man was found shot at Birchleaf Park in Seat Pleasant, he was taken to the hospital where he died.

Prince George’s County Police say the victim was 18-year-old Michael Delonta Cooper of Washington, D.C.

Community advocates like Brandon say it’s going to take the entire community to come together to put an end to the increasing violence.

“We need to put together our peace walks again. We need to bring back the fights for the community, start standing in these communities, standing on the ground and making sure that we let them know that we’re going to take back our community,” she said.

Police are still searching for a suspect in these two shootings. If you have any information, you’re encouraged to call police.
