Community nominations sought for Mayor's Medal of Honor

Sep. 28—ROCHESTER — Nominations for the Rochester Mayor's Medal of Honor are being sought to recognize residents who have gone above and beyond to serve the community.

Medals are awarded in 14 categories, including communitywide service, champion of diversity, heroism, sustainability, excellence in industry and youth serving community.

"In its 40th year, the Mayor's Medal of Honor recognizes and celebrates the outstanding contributions of our community members," Mayor Kim Norton said in a statement encouraging people to submit nominations. "I encourage all members of our community to consider submitting a nomination for someone you know who deserves this recognition."

To submit a nomination, a nominator must complete a brief form, which includes providing up to 400 words on why the individual deserves the award. Nominations are being collected online or through a paper form from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31.

Selected recipients will be honored at a Dec. 1, 2023, luncheon. Past recipients of the Mayor's Medal of Honor are invited to join the 40th anniversary, including discounted tickets for past recipients and their guests. Luncheon tickets will be available on Nov. 1.
