Porter County Council board seeks applicants for open position

The Porter County Council is seeking citizen applicants for the Indiana Dunes Tourism Board position. The position must filled by May 28. Applications are available at the Porter County Council office, 155 Indiana Ave. Suite 207, Valparaiso, or online at www.porterco.org under the County Council tab. Requirements, such as residency, and/or certain political party affiliation, must be met in order to qualify for a particular appointment. Applications must be received no later than May 24, and the final decision will be made at a public meeting May 28.

CHS 5% Club Banquet honors seniors, selected educator

The 25 students in the top 5% of the Chesterton High School Senior Class of 2024 were honored at the 35th Annual 5% Club Banquet held Wednesday at the Spa Special Event Center. The Duneland Education Foundation and the Duneland School Corporation sponsored the event. The 25 students each attended the banquet with an educator who has influenced or inspired them in their educational career. PoCo Muse brings living history demonstration to Hebron

Porter County Museum (PoCo Muse) will sponsor a free demonstration of 19th-century games and activities interpreted by living-history reenactors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stagecoach Inn, 127 N. Main St., Hebron. Presented in partnership with the Hebron Parks and Recreation Department, the event was organized by veteran living-history interpreter, Ian Baker of Michigan City. Numerous mid-19th-century games will be presented, as well as other recreational activities commonly practiced in taverns and inns of the time. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions, participate in the activities and interact with the interpreters. Public invited to Learn with Lakeshore at Bulldog Park

Lakeshore Public Media will host Learn with Lakeshore from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19 at Bulldog Park, 183 S. West St., Crown Point. The event is free. Learn with Lakeshore provides families with interactive experiences that promote early learning and childhood development, along with valuable resources and information for parents and caregivers. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from various nonprofit organizations and enjoy activities for all ages. NICK to host annual golf outing fundraiser

The Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation (NICK) will host the Ninth Annual Mark Hill Memorial Golf Outing June 7 at White Hawk Country Club, 1001 White Hawk Drive, Crown Point. Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. Shotgun start time is noon. The cost is $135 per person for golf, lunch and dinner; $520 per foursome for golf, lunch and dinner; and $40 per person for dinner only. Hill passed away in 2015 after a two-year battle with stomach cancer. He was an avid golfer and a strong supporter of NICK and its mission. All proceeds from this event will benefit the NICK Foundation. NICK is a registered 501(c)(3) charity; a portion of each donation is tax deductible.
