Community invited to participate in Operation Clean Sweep in downtown Mansfield

The City of Mansfield and Downtown Mansfield Inc. have declared May 21 as Operation Clean Sweep in support of Earth Stewardship Month and the Great American Cleanup.

Volunteers, local businesspeople and organizations are asked to don work clothes and meet at the gazebo in Central Park between 4:45 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Volunteers are asked to bring their own brooms and shovels if they have them. The city will provide collection bags, gloves and disposal of the litter collected. Volunteers also will plant flowers in all of the planters in the downtown area, according to a news release from Kim Hildreth, project planner for the city.

“This has been a very successful partnership with Downtown Mansfield Inc. for nearly 3three decades and I appreciate all of their leadership,” Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry said. “I want to encourage people to join us for the 28th anniversary event and help us ensure that downtown Mansfield is ready for the thousands of visitors who come to the area each summer.”

Jennifer Gerberick Kime, DMI CEO said, “Downtown Mansfield Inc. is excited to continue our partnership with the City of Mansfield in our joint efforts to beautify and clean our community. It is through these collaborative partnerships and dedicated volunteers that we are able to continue the beautification of Mansfield.”

All volunteers will receive a certificate and token of appreciation courtesy of a grant received by the city. Volunteers will also be entered into a drawing to win prizes at the Earth Stewardship Awards ceremony.

May 23 is the rain date. Volunteers would still meet in Central Park at 4:45 p.m.
