Community gathered in remembrance of fallen Covington officer killed in 2022 shooting

COVINGTON, Va. (WFXR) — It’s been two years since a Covington Police Officer was shot and killed in the line of duty. To honor the life and memory of Officer Caleb Daniel Ogilvie, the City of Covington and the Police Department partnered together to hold a banner dedication on March 14.

The ceremony was held in front of Covington’s City Hall and began at 11 a.m. During the ceremony, a portion of the Mid-City Parking Lot and the 300 Block of W. Locust was closed.

As we previously reported, on March 14, 2022, Covington police and the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident at the Convington Farm and Fuel on North Alleghany Avenue. When officers arrived, Toney S. Poulston Jr., of Covington, began shooting at officers. During the shootout, Poulston and Officer Ogilvie were both killed during the incident.
