Community Celebrates St. Patty’s Day at the bars

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The bars were filled with green on Sunday as St. Patrick’s Day festivities took place all around the Greater Lansing Area.

A big bar crawl happened in Lansing with Irish kilts, Irish beer, and good company. Rian Jordan was enjoying the holiday. He said he started the day with corn beef, then he got to bar hopping.

“Holidays like this bring out the best people in Lansing,” Jordan said.

He went to Nuthouse first, then ended up at The Lansing Brewing Company. He said these bars deserve a lot of business on St. Patty’s Day.

“What I think is important about St. Patrick’s Day is that local businesses get involved in this,” Jordan said.

And involved they are. The brewing company was part of the Paddy Hard bar crawl. The bar’s Assistant General Manager, Daniel Tucker, was ready for a busy day.

“It’s one of the biggest bar days of the year. So all of the bars are blowing up having a great day, great weekend,” Tucker said.

So what makes the bars go hand in hand with the holiday? Tucker said it’s tradition.

“It was a chance to really celebrate and have revelry around heritage. And when you’re celebrating, a drink in hand is a really fun way to celebrate,” Tucker said.

Brandon and Ashley Bernheisel had been at The Brewing Company since 10:30 in the morning, kicking St. Patty’s Day off with an Irish brunch.

“Steak and eggs, cabbage, corn beef, I had a veggie burrito with beer cheese. It was phenomenal,” Ashley said.

And they didn’t get pinched today because they went all out with their green outfits.

“Any excuse to bring out the yellow. We’ve got more outfits than we can choose from,” Ashley said.

Who knows, maybe someone found a pot of gold at the end of their bar crawl.
