Apr. 15—MIDLAND — Midland Children's Rehabilitation Center (MCRC) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of their equine facilities upgrade project, which was organized by the Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA) Students in Philanthropy (SIP) team and funded by Chevron. MCRC will continue to use the renovated facilities to support its equine programs, including hippotherapy ("therapy on horseback") and therapeutic riding.

The event will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 19 at the Midland Children's Rehabilitation Center Equestrian Facilities, 4407 Meadowlark Lane in Midland. The ribbon cutting begins at 2 p.m.

The YWLA SIP team developed the project in collaboration with MCRC and entered it last fall in the Dallas Cowboys Community Captain competition. The Community Captain initiative is a partnership among the Dallas Cowboys, Chevron, and Abell-Hanger Foundation (AHF) that encourages teamwork between West Texas students and nonprofits on service projects that benefit their communities. The YWLA team won the competition, earning the title of Dallas Cowboys Community Captain and a $10,000 donation by Chevron to MCRC to fund the YWLA team's project's implementation.

On April 19, MCRC is leading volunteers from YWLA, AHF, Chevron, and the Dallas Cowboys (including legendary safety Darren Woodson and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders) in completing the upgrades, which include repairing and repainting the fence, updating fans in the stables, and renovating the office and bathroom.

Representatives expected to be on hand are Kristal Kidd, Executive Director, Midland Children's Rehabilitation Center; Grace Muscroft and Marina Garcia, Young Women's Leadership Academy Students in Philanthropy team captains; Julia Vickery, Students in Philanthropy Program Coordinator, Abell-Hanger Foundation; Nicole Barber, Public and Government Affairs Manager, Chevron Darren Woodson, Dallas Cowboys former player; Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
