Commonwealth College Hoops teams going to March, breaking down who’s going to the big dance

NORFOLK, VA (WAVY) — Five Commonwealth-based College Basketball teams made it to the NCAA Tournament on the Men’s and Women’s side. Let’s break down who’s going, and who they’re playing.

  • Norfolk State Women’s Basketball will take on 2 seeded Stanford on Friday, March 22 in California

  • Virginia Tech Women’s Hoops is a 4 seed and will play 13 seeded Marshall at home in Blacksburg on Friday, March 22

  • JMU is in a 12-5 game against Wisconsin. That’ll be Friday, March 22 at the Barclays Center

  • UVA is in a 10 seed play-in game with Colorado State. Winner plays Texas in Charlotte. Tipoff vs Colorado State, Tuesday, March 19 at 9:10 p.m.

  • Longwood will play top seeded Houston, which tips off in Memphis Friday, March 22 at 9:20 p.m.

The Non-NCAA Tournament teams are below (Dates, times, and opponents for some of these games are still TBD)

  • Virginia Tech and Richmond Men’s Basketball will square off in the opening round of the NIT Tuesday in Blacksburg at 9 p.m.

  • VCU will play Villanova in Pennsylvania at 9 p.m. on Wednesday

  • Norfolk State Men’s Basketball will host a CIT game against the winner of Alabama A&M and Austin Peay Saturday at 4 p.m.

  • ODU Women will play in the WNIT against either North Carolina A&T and UNC Greensboro. Time and place still TBD
