Common to star in revenge actioner ‘Quick Draw’

Common’s next Hollywood project is locked and loaded.

EW has confirmed the Oscar-winning rapper and actor will star in the upcoming revenge thriller Quick Draw.

Plot details are slim at the moment, though Canadian writer-director Harris Goldberg told The Hollywood Reporter the film will feature “hyper intense shoot-outs, choreographed car chases, and lightning fast hand-to-hand combat” and action that “plays out across the mean streets of Los Angeles.”

Alongside Content Media, Transformers franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is also working on the film, which marks a notable shift in Goldberg’s creative output, as he’s primarily written comedic screenplays (the Deuce Bigalow series, Without a Paddle) in the past. Content’s Tom Butterfield and Greenlit Creative’s David Greenblatt will produce as well.

“The narrative creates is incredibly rich and while intense action defines this movie,” di Bonaventura told THR. “The story is also very much character driven.”

After winning his first Academy Award in 2015 for co-penning the original track “Glory” for Ava DuVernay’s Selma, Common upped his profile on the big screen, landing roles in the crime thriller Run All Night and the tentpole superhero flick Suicide Squad. Most recently, he appeared opposite Keanu Reeves in the high-profile sequel John Wick: Chapter 2, which has made $87.4 million domestically to date.

Quick Draw reportedly begins shooting this summer.
