Wild footage has captured a dazzling fireball lighting up the night sky in neon blue over parts of Spain and Portugal, according to the European Space Agency.

Many fortunate witnesses observed the display late on Saturday, describing it as a stunning meteor.

However, the agency later clarified that it appeared to be a small piece of comet rather than a meteor, estimating that it flew over Spain and Portugal at a speed of 45 kilometres per second before burning up over the Atlantic.
