Donald Trump demands comedienne Samantha Bee be fired over Ivanka slur

Donald Trump demanded a comedienne be fired after she made a vulgar slur against his daughter Ivanka.

Samantha Bee, a high profile US television satirist, called the first daughter a "feckless c---" during her show "Full Frontal".

Mr Trump said: "Why aren't they firing no talent Samantha Bee for the horrible language used on her low ratings show?" 

He said it exposed a "total double standard" in the media that the TBS cable network had not canceled the programme.

The president was referring to the ABC network's recent decision to cancel Roseanne Barr's sitcom "Roseanne".

Barr, a vocal supporter of Mr Trump, had compared a black former Barack Obama adviser to an ape. She subsequently apologised, describing her tweet as "indefensible".

Mr Trump said: "A total double standard but that's O.K., we are Winning, and will be doing so for a long time to come!"

Bee made the offensive remark while standing in front of a photograph Ms Trump had placed on social media of her with one of her children.

During the segment the comedienne urged Ms Trump to speak to her father about immigration policies that separate children from their parents.

She said: "Put on something tight and low-cut and tell your father to f****** stop it," going on to insult Ms Trump further.

Bee later apologised on Twitter, writing: "I would like to sincerely apologise to Ivanka Trump, and to my viewers, for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night.

"It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it."

The programme was pre-recorded, meaning executives at TBS had approved its broadcast.

In a statement TBS said: "It was our mistake too, and we regret it."

TBS is owned by Time Warner, which also owns CNN, the news network Mr Trump has long been in a running feud with.

Bee's show immediately faced a backlash from advertisers and sponsors who pulled support.

The White House called the language used "vile and vicious".
