Robert Kelly To Star In Autobiographical Comedy In Works At FX From Apostle

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll co-star Robert Kelly is reuniting with the series’ creator-star Denis Leary and his Apostle production company for another FX comedy series project. The cable network is developing a half-hour series starring actor-comedian Kelly, from Leary & Jim Serpico’s Apostle.

In addition to starring, Kelly will co-write the autobiographical project with Apostle principals Serpico and Tom Sellitti. The comedy stems from Kelly’s recent life experiences beating several addictions, though he still struggles with his dependency on food. He discussed his issues on a recent episode of Marc Maron’s podcast WTF.

The untitled project picks up when Kelly’s compulsive habits cause him to lose the things most important to him, which thrusts him into a journey to find happiness and purpose. Kelly, Serpico and Sellitti executive produce with Leary. Apostle co-produces with Fox 21 TV Studios and FX Productions.

Kelly, who co-starred as the drummer in Leary’s fictional band in Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, also is known for playing Louis C.K.’s brother on FX’s Louie. He’s repped by Gersh and Cohen Gardner. Leary, Serpico and Sellitti are repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
