ComEd expects damage, outages from winter storm
ComEd expects damage to its system, power outages as winter storm approaches northern Illinois
CHICAGO (AP) -- ComEd is expecting significant damage to its system in northern Illinois and power outages as the first winter storm of the season bears down on the area.
The Exelon Corp. unit says it is preparing additional crews and equipment and asking for help from other utilities to respond quickly to outages.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the area starting at 3 p.m.
Six to 9 inches of snow are expected across north-central Illinois by Thursday night, with wind gusts up to 60 mph.
ComEd Vice President Terence Donnelly says the storm is "expected to be especially damaging" to the company's power system because of the combination of wind, snow and ice.
ComEd is asking customers to report outages by calling 1-800 EDISON1 or online at ComEd.com.
